‘I was shocked when I received the call’

Ferguson has been away from coaching for three years since departing part-time side Alloa Athletic and confessed he was “shocked when I received the call.”

Lately, he had been serving as a Rangers club ambassador and had no intentions of returning to frontline football, but admitted: “It only took five minutes to agree to step in as interim boss.”

“Everyone is entitled to their viewpoint. I have no problem with that. I would rather be evaluated at the end of the season, but I understand I will be assessed match by match.

“This is simply the reality of life here at Glasgow Rangers.”

Ferguson “can’t wait to be on the sidelines” at Rugby Park on Wednesday but acknowledges he has not had much time with his squad to get ready for a trip to a ground where they suffered defeat in October.

“I’ve only had one training session, but I’m not going to use that as a justification,” he continued.

“We haven’t overloaded them with too much information because it’s such short notice, but they grasp the strategy we’re going to implement.

“I expect them to secure victories and give me their absolute best. They completely recognize my demands of them.”
